|| | REBEL ICON

Artist: J. Noah Mattern
Where: TAF Galleries
When: May 4 - May 25

This exhibit is a collection of works designed and fulfilled over the last 3 years. Special attention was paid to the absolute authenticity of all objects contained herein. Moreover, these items were intended to instill a wariness for common culture, a distaste for propaganda and a general ennui with pedestrian icons. The bulk of these works were items subjected to a battery of modern graphic techniques, processed to provide the viewer instant, optimal cognition. Though these items may be considered political in nature, it must be realized that they are not biased by politics or general moral histrionics. Rebel Icon was intended to challenge the viewer to rethink cultural themes of ideology, apathy and alienation. Above all, it is hoped that these works, as all artwork ought to, provoke thought and inspire action; whether through irony, humor, beauty, subversion, execution or pure candor. Rebellion is an idea fueled by the appreciation of individuality and the task of forging a world based on freedom and creativity. Art is the reflection of these ideas.

The artist resides in Lafayette, Indiana in a small studio dedicated to art, music and disinformation.
